MTC Mourns the Loss of First Executive Director, Gene Corrigan

The Commission was saddened by news of the death of Eugene F. Corrigan, the MTC’s very first executive director, one month shy of his 91st birthday. In July, he impressed us all with his charm and remembrances while with us in Louisville for our 50th anniversary.

GeneCorriganMTC50.jpgThere are unique challenges to being the executive director of the MTC. Gene Corrigan faced not only those challenges but also the herculean task of building and guiding the MTC as a brand new creation. We’ve spent a good deal of time reviewing the Commission’s past this year, and not a week has gone by when we haven’t been amazed by some aspect of what Gene, and others like him, were able to accomplish, even in the face of very determined efforts to destroy what they were working so hard to build.

Gene often described himself as a “proud parent” of the Multistate Tax Commission, and it was an honor and privilege to have our “founding father” with us in Louisville this summer—along with his wife, Billie, and son, Robb—to help celebrate our 50th anniversary. It is an anniversary that would not have happened but for Gene’s hard work and dedication during the first two decades of the MTC. The Commission expresses profound thanks and condolences to his family.
