Important: April 1, 2021 is the deadline to qualify for the tuition discount now available through the MTC for state and local tax government lawyers and qualified tax professionals (“government employees”) applying for Fall 2021 admission to the Georgetown University Law Center’s Tax online distance education programs. Membership in MTC is not a precondition of enrollment.
Georgetown Law and the Multistate Tax Commission (“MTC”) have partnered to provide a 20% tuition discount to state and local tax government attorneys and qualified non-attorney tax professionals who matriculate in the 2021-2022 LL.M., MSL, or SALT Certificate Distance Learning programs. A state or local government employee may apply at the outset either for the SALT Certificate as a stand-alone program or for a LL.M. or MSL degree with a SALT or International Taxation Certificate.
In order to qualify for the tuition reduction benefit, applicants must submit supplemental material establishing their eligibility to the MTC. The MTC will confirm each applicant’s eligibility for the tuition reduction benefit. Applicants will be granted the tuition reduction benefit promoted through the MTC if the following conditions are met:
- The applicant submits the required supplemental material establishing their eligibility to the MTC by March 15.
- The MTC confirms the applicant’s eligibility (see below) under the program to Georgetown Law no later than April 1.
- The applicant is —
- Employed by a state or local government as of April 1 (the application deadline);
- Determined by the MTC to be practicing in the field of tax law as of April 1 (the application deadline);
- Enrolls in an eligible Georgetown Law academic course of study program (as described, above).
Students pay tuition at the normal rates set by Georgetown Law. The 2021-2022 rate for the online programs is $2,877.00 per credit hour and Georgetown Law now offers a 20% discount to qualifying state and local tax government employees who apply as part of the agreement reached between Georgetown Law and the MTC.
Note: State membership in the MTC is not a precondition of enrollment in the programs.
